Paired Reading

One adult. One child. Thirty minutes a week. That is all it takes to change a child’s relationship with reading.

Trained volunteers are paired with students to provide one-to-one reading support during the school day. The approach is simple, but the impact is lasting. Students build confidence. Teachers gain support. Volunteers become reading role models.

Each term, participating students also receive new books to take home, helping build personal libraries and sustain reading momentum beyond the classroom. This ongoing element of the programme is made possible through dedicated funding support.

Currently running at:

  • Sir John A. Cumber Primary School
  • Red Bay Primary School
  • John Gray High School

We need more volunteers. To bring Paired Reading to more schools across the Cayman Islands, we need more community members willing to give 30 minutes a week. No teaching experience required. Just a willingness to read alongside a child.
