KPMG, through the charitable organization LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone), donated a Kindle Fire to the first place winner of the Poetry Slam! competition that took place as part of John Gray High School’s Teen Read Week in December.  A poetry slam is usually defined as “the competitive art of performance poetry” with dual emphasis on writing and performance. Competitors representing all year groups and poets performed their original poems, and were judged according to set criteria.

Janae Whittaker took home the sought after Kindle Fire for her poem titled ‘Trapped’, while Kharley Rivers, author of ‘Teenage Pregnancy’, and Aleigha General, author of ‘Abused’, won second place and third place respectively.
